COVID-19 Safety Plan Policies & Procedures

FACE COVERINGS

All children in grades 4 – 12 inclusive are required to wear a non-medical or cloth mask when attending in-person workshops at The Art Lab. While not required, children in JK – Grades 3 are strongly encouraged to wear a mask, if possible. You can read the full section-22 mask order from The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit by clicking here.

ACCESSING THE STUDIO & DROP OFF/PICK UP

  • Staff, children, parents, and caregivers must not enter the premise if they have symptoms of COVID-19 or have travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days or have been identified by public health as a close contact of a person with a confirmed case of COVID-19.

  • We have posted signage on the front door and at the front desk reminding people not to enter the site if they have symptoms associated with COVID-19.

  • At drop off, parents/caregivers will be required to check “yes/no” that children do not have symptoms of common cold, influenza, COVID-19, or other respiratory disease.

  • We will not accept a child drop off if the answer is yes

  • Staff with symptoms of COVID-19 will be excluded from work, stay home, and self-isolate until they have been assessed by a health care provider to exclude COVID-19 or other infectious disease, and their symptoms have resolved.

  • Parents and caregivers are required to assess their children daily for the presence of symptoms of common cold, influenza, COVID-19, or other infectious respiratory disease prior to drop off. Parents and caregivers must keep their children at home until they have been assessed by a health care provider to exclude COVID-19 or other infectious diseases, and their symptoms have resolved.

  • If a staff member becomes ill or exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 while at work they will be required leave work immediately and self isolate until they are deemed safe to return

HAND HYGIENE & RESPIRATORY ETIQUETTE

  • Proper hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette is posted throughout the studio and in the washrooms

PHYSICAL DISTANCING

  • Staff should maintain a distance of at least 2 metres from each other. Where this is not possible, for example when transferring a very young child from one worker to another, plan and communicate the work task in advance to ensure that time spent in close proximity is minimized.

  • We have limited the amount of people in the studio at one time to 6 and events will not be scheduled at this time.(revised December 8th, 2020)

  • Activities will be staggered to encourage physical distancing between children.

  • It is not always possible for workers to maintain physical distance from children, and between children, when in care. Adhere to the principle of physical distancing where possible, by:

1.  Minimizing the frequency of direct physical contact with children.

2.  Forming a number of separate play areas in order to space children apart. Note that children who live in the same home do not need to maintain physical distance from each other.

3.  Creating smaller groups or cohorts of children and keeping these groups separate from each other.

4.  Minimizing the number of different workers that interact with the same child or group of children.

5.  Organizing snack/meal areas to space children apart.

6.  Including the use of outdoor space for various activities, including snack/meal time, while adhering to physical distancing and hygiene principles.

CLEANING & DISINFECTING

  • We have removed toys and materials that have surfaces that are not easily cleaned.

  • We have remove items from the studio to reduce surfaces that could become contaminated.

  • High traffic and frequently-touched surfaces (e.g., door knobs, cupboard handles, light switches, faucet handles, tables, chairs, toys). Are disinfected with a bleach solution throughout the day

  • General cleaning and disinfecting of the workplace will occur once a day at a minimum

  • Toys and objects that children have touched will be disinfected at the end of the day and will be rotated to reduce exposure.

  • If a worker or child leaves the studio due to symptoms of COVID-19, clean areas those individuals were in, including surfaces they may have touched, immediately upon their departure.

USE OF PPE

  • COVID-19 Public Health Guidance for Child Care Settings states that personal protective equipment, such as masks and gloves, are not needed beyond those used by staff as part of regular precautions for the hazards normally encountered in their regular course of work.

  • Where PPE has been identified for tasks prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, continue to use this PPE when performing these tasks.

  • Public health does NOT recommended children to wear masks in child care settings.

MEALS & SNACKS

  • Sharing of food or drink by staff or children is not permitted.

  • Snacks and meals are only allowed at a designated table that has been sanitized before and after use.

OTHER METHODS TO CONTROL RISK

  • Adequate amounts of high touch materials, such as art supplies, will be supplied in order to minimize sharing between children.

  • Children’s belongings will be stored separately on every second hook to avoid touching.

  • We will use the outdoor space as much as possible throughout the day.

ARTWORK PICKUP AND STORAGE

Our policy is to store artwork for 2 weeks only. Please pick up your artwork within this timeframe.  It is not guaranteed your artwork will still be at the studio 2 weeks after your workshop.

We know how precious it is and we do our best to hold on as long as possible.  However, the studio is very busy and artwork can pile up! We have lots of artists creating and only have enough room to artwork for 2 weeks.

WORKSHOPS

 CANCELLATION & TRANSFER

  • You can refund your workshop booking up to 24 hours before the workshop using the link provided you in the booking confirmation. We cannot provide a refund after this time.

  • You can transfer your workshop booking up to 24 hours before the workshop using the link provided you in the booking confirmation.

  • We cannot provide a transfer after this time.

 LATENESS

  • Running late? We understand that sometimes there are unforeseeable issues. These things happen.

  • If you are 5 minutes late to a workshop it makes it really hard on the instructor and the demonstration. This can be avoided by arriving 5-10 minutes early. The classroom itself will open up 5 minutes before the start of the demonstration so you have time to grab an apron and settle in.

  • If you are more than 5 minutes late to a workshop demonstration you will miss the instruction and the necessary steps in the project and you may not be able to join in. This is at the discretion of the instructor.

  • Understand that we cannot offer a refund or credit if you are late and unable to join the class. If there is room for the next demonstration, you are welcome to join that one instead.

  • We require 24 hours notice of any cancellations and transfers.

 CHANGES TO BOOKINGS

  • You can make changes to your booking up to 24 hours before.

  • If the change you make requires less payment than originally paid, a credit will be entered on your account (i.e. a booking change from 2 people to 1, the amount paid for the 2nd person will be added to your account.)
